One of the benefits of working for myself is that I can take a day off whenever I want. One of the challenges of working for myself is that whenever I take a day off I can’t make any money. Another challenge of working as a business coach is the way scheduling works. I usually have coaching sessions with a client that are at the same day and time each week, every other week, or each month. This makes taking days off a challenge because my clients schedule their lives around my life being predictable. This will become more and more difficult the more clients I take on.
As a Hero On A Mission (HOAM)I realized how challenging taking time off would be almost right away. Thinking about that it dawned on me that a few days each year don’t cause scheduling problems for me or my clients. I’m talking about days like today: a fifth day of the month. So, in December of 2020 I reserved all of those days as days I wouldn’t do any coaching. And preferably days I wouldn’t do any work at all.
March 2021 has five Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. So, for the first time in 2021 I’m taking some days off. In fact, this is the first time I’m taking more than two days in a row off since the pandemic began. Let me tell you, I needed the break. And I am having a fantastic time not working today!
I’m glad I realized the fifth day opportunity for a break long before 2021 began and planned accordingly. If I weren’t reviewing my HOAM Life Plan on a regular basis back in December, I’m confident I wouldn’t have taken today through Wednesday off.
Why? Because there is always more work to do. There are always urgent needs crying for my attention. As a startup, there is always the need for more clients and ways to generate more income from my work. And I am very goal driven and like to work. So, I’d just keep hustling and not take advantage of the fifth day opportunities each year presents.
