“What do you do?” isn’t an easy question to answer. The people who ask it is usually someone you just met. They don’t want your life story. They want to know if they would like to get to know you better or not. They are listening for something that will help them thrive or survive. That makes this little question a big one.
As a Hero On A Mission (HOAM) I’ve found I have an immediate answer to that question that almost always perks someone’s curiosity. They easily decide whether or not they want to keep investing in getting to know me or not. And they often ask follow up questions if they do.
What is my answer to, “What do you do?”
It’s the Story Summary in my HOAM Life Plan. After I created my aspirational obituary I moved on to create a story summary. In essence, it boils down the obituary into a bite-sized morsel of information that’s not too much, or too little. It’s just right!
My HOAM Story Summary focuses on the doing and “hope-to-be” doing parts of my life. Mine is unique because I’m co-vocational. So, depending upon the person I’ve just met, or crowd I’m in, I may choose to share just the half that most applies to them. But the cool thing is—the listen and respond!
In the spirit of self-disclosure I’ve been on this week, I’ve decided to post my story summary for you today. Once again, I hope it better helps you understand what this element of the HOAM Life Plan is. I know I’ve talked about it a lot. Now you can see my example for yourself. Maybe you’ll even be inspired to create your own HOAM Life Plan. If that’s something you’d like, I’d be honored to help you with it!
Glen’s HOAM Story Summary
A former pastor turned spiritual entrepreneur starts a coaching business to help faith-based business leaders grow their companies and integrate their faith so they can use their successes to make our world a better place to live, work, and worship AND simultaneously, he launches a multiplying network of micro-churches that truly love people who are disinterested in and skeptical of any church they know of so they too can experience the life-transforming love of Jesus.
