If you ever take the Hero On A Mission (HOAM) course at Business Made Simple University; or, if you attend a HOAM Workshop. One of the projects you will complete is the writing of a Story Summary for the life you want to live. [See the end of this post for more info on the course and workshop.]
My Story Summary is an important element of a HOAM Life Plan.
A Story Summary is short–only two-four sentences long.
When I first created mine, I had no idea how powerful it would be.
Why Repetition Matters
Because I review my Life Plan about 4 or 5 times a week, My Story Summary has been committed to memory without even trying.
Now, when I introduce myself to someone, I share My Story Summary.
- It flows right off the tongue effortlessly.
- It usually sparks curiosity and a deeper conversation.
- It connects my story to other people’s stories.
Today, for instance, I got to explain what a HOAM was to a group people I’d never met before over lunch.
I must have repeated lines from My Story Summary a half dozen times.
And it didn’t feel like overkill.
The Power of Story
One of the things I’ve learned from Business Made Simple is how important inviting people into a story is for business.
My Story Summary has proven to be a great tool to help me do that.
After today’s lunch meeting was over, one of the women told me she thought my presentation was “great and really interesting.”
That’s exactly what I want people to say about me after meeting them.
